Out of all the maximus xi boards which one would you choose for both gaming and rendering?

  2. Cemcim

Very nice review. thanks! I have the board and I am cosidering to watercool it. I am a little afraid thow the that the coolingblock is made out of copper and the rest of my system is aluminium. I wonder if it would build corrosion even using the right cooling fluid?

I have the motherboard and on the new BIOS makes a lot of difference overclocking CPU temperatures 22 9900k at 5gb vram at 18 but you need to put time and effort into setting the BIOS up I can achieve some crazy scores on benchmark programs don't listen it isn't overclocking motherboard

Whoa, please do GENE next. Very good work, I just thinking about switching from GENE to Formula ..Gene doesn't have ASUS, thor, helios out of luck to sync without terminal.

I flashed the Bios Version 1302 but it sucked hard. I installed Version 1201 again = Works with 5 ghz again :)) Cheers

Slow news week? This board is a year old isn't it?

  7. John Chrysostom

ok that made me laugh LOL

  8. Pryda

    not one person wants a 9900k running at 4.7ghz. if it's duff at 5ghz, then it's a redundant mobo…

  9. john doe

No point in this board since it's on the normal consumer class CPU's ….. I can see this type of MOBO on the HEDT line of CPU's but this is not that

  10. Frequency M

A very thorough and honest review…. enjoyed it from start to end. Gr8 job 👌🏼

  11. mfdsuk

It would be more impressive if the socket was AM4…

  12. ericneo2

XD Thanks for the laugh Leo!

  13. Brent P

A single monoblock would make more sense.

Let me try your profiles. I did have a little more tweaking but bottom line super stable and temps all around is well below as expected. I measure on probe and temps gun. Price is high but here is the model that is the best sold. Thanks Mr Leo And yes. sames results as you. It appear like the board is protecting itself. Butt results are mix. And yes in these boards from asus. There is almost NO difference on stock xmp1 YES values and 5.0 ghz. even with 1.29 volts on the vcore. is like 200points. It is interesting to dig that. I have push on aio to 5.2 on 29/32C ambient and still perform well. But the extreme is another story. Is a limitation…. maybe. You can have access to one so try the same specs on bios and check. will be interesting. Also there is changes on 1302 bios that differ on the last version. but is better And my opinion is a board that anyone can OC and also yes… there are other boards can do better but a lot more tweaking

    No did.2?

  16. Peter Scrace

Think I will stick with my 9900K@5.2Ghz on my Maximus X Formula, seems this would be a downgrade

My concerns with this board are:
    1) PCH heatsink under the plastic "armor".
    2) Improperly ventilated cases might pose an issue with VRM thermals if the water cooling is not used.
    3) Adding an additional 15-30W of heat into the custom loop might affect the (water cooled) GPU performance, maybe even the CPU's.
    4) At this price point I was expecting a monoblock that covers both the CPU socket and the active VRM components.
    5) The board has a useless 4-pin CPU power connector instead of a much better suited 6/8 pin PCI-e connector for the 3 PCI-e slots.
    6) The ATX 24-pin connector is not right-angled like the SATA and USB ones that sit on the same side of the board.
    7) One of the fan headers at the bottom should be at the top next to the CPU power connectors. (This is just really, really minor and nitpicking.)

I find everything else perfectly fine, justifiable (cheaper power stages) and appropriate for the price point and the socket that it powers.

Having recently bought the ASUS ROG Strix Gaming-E, I can definitely confirm that the price of mmotherboards are currently eye-watering. Ouch. Just ouch.

  19. ninezerofive

Ain't you about a year late with this ?
P.S. If you are watching this and think about purchasing it, don't. Get Apex XI instead. Much better VRM that could run without a heatsink at all, this is gimmick board for those who don't know no better.

    pretty satisfied with this board.
